In our Orangeburg Dental Home office, located in South Carolina, we offer patients an affordable option to porcelain veneers called composite bonding. Composite bonding doesn't require impressions or lab work so the procedure can be done in one visit. For many of our patients, it is the look they want at a price they can afford.
What is Composite Bonding?
Composite bonding is the easiest and least invasive of all cosmetic dental procedures. Cosmetic dental bonding fills in gaps and chips found on the tooth. It uses a composite resin that's made to blend in with the rest of your teeth. The resin is activated and hardened with a specialized light and shaped to your liking.
Your initial step is to schedule an appointment at our Dental Home office in Orangeburg, SC, so you and the doctor can discuss your treatment goals. The dentist will use a shade guide to select the composite resin that matches the color of the tooth. Once your color has been chosen, the doctor will etch the surface of the tooth to roughen it. The dentist will use a conditioning liquid that helps the bonding material adhere to the tooth. When the tooth is ready, the dentist will apply the tooth-colored, putty-like resin. Then the dentist molds and smooth’s the resin to its proper shape. Finally, the material is hardened using an ultraviolet light or laser. Once the bonding material hardens, if needed, the dentist will trim and shape it and polish the material until it matches the rest of the tooth surface. This procedure usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour. If more than one tooth needs to be done, you may need to schedule more time or additional visits.
Do Composites Look Natural?
Yes! Composite bonding is arguably the most natural type of cosmetic dental restoration. Our office, at Dental Home, specializes in cosmetic dentistry and has the practical skills required for intricate veneering and tooth sculpting. Are composites natural looking?
What Care is Needed Afterward?
Today's composite material is durable enough to last without regular attention. Nonetheless, you should make sure to keep your regular dental checkup and daily oral care a priority. You should avoid biting down on particularly hard foods, or ice, as this could cause cracking.
