What are Tooth-Colored Fillings?
In the past, cavities were only treated using unsightly metal fillings. Today, tooth-colored fillings, or also called composite fillings, are made of durable resin is bonded to your teeth for a stronger and more natural-looking effect.
A tooth colored filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, and/or fractured. The decayed part of your tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling. At Dental Home, the doctor will take into consideration the extent of the repair, if the patient suffers from allergies to certain materials, where the filling is needed, and the cost. Tooth-colored fillings, or composite resin, are then matched to the same color as your teeth and used where a natural appearance is needed. The ingredients are mixed and then placed directly into the cavity, where it hardens.
How are tooth-colored fillings placed?
Tooth-colored fillings are occasionally done in one appointment. While the tooth is numb, the doctor will remove as much decay as needed. The area will then be cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed. If the decay is near the nerve, a special medication will be applied for more protection. The composite filling will then placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function. It is normal to feel sensitive to hot and cold foods when fillings are first placed. However, this will eventually subside once your tooth acclimates to the new filling. Our dental staff will provide you with any instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Continuing good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new fillings.
